Photo Essay

This was when our class went to Albertsons as a school field trip. The children learned about the food pyramid and the roles that each food plays in our bodies. Did you know that red fruits or vegetables are good for the heart? Green and yellow for the circulatory system? Orange for the eyes? I didn't! We humans are always learning new things. :D

The students had recently learned about different types of wood and how they're made. They applied what they had learned into science and were able to do this experiment. In the experiment they had to figure out how to make the wood block using only rubber bands and paper clips. They all were able to make the sink the blocks! :O It was impressive to see how they eventually figured that they had to balance the paper clips on the sides of the block all on their own.

These are 100 heart bags that I had to do for all of the kindergarten classes. To do these heart bags I had to cut out 200 hearts and fold them in half so be able to staple it with the another folded heart. Then I had to make handles for the bags. This took me about one day and a half to do. Not fun after a while.. :(

This poster was made for me while I was working downstairs in the main office. The kids took time to write me a Happy Birthday poster for my birthday. It was a pleasant surprise. Sweetest kids ever! <3
"Happy Birthday teacher Stephanie!"

Final Week!

Describe your POL preparation process. What presentation tools are you planning to use? Are you relying on notes, a memorized talk, something else? How are you preparing for questions you might be asked? What are you planning to wear?
My preparation process was mainly to take a lot of pictures so I can have digital proof of my work and growth as an intern at Sherman Elementary and making sure I actually learned new things and absorbed what it really is to be a teacher. All I used was my Powerpoint and I did not rely on notes,it was a memorized talk. How I prepared for the questions that might have been asked was practicing my POL with other interns and having them interpret the role of mentors and the rest of the audience. I wore professional clothing.

How do you see yourself making decisions about your own career path? Do you see yourself following the career of your mentor? Why or why not?
I honestly see my self struggling to make my own decisions about my career path because there is so many things someone can do but it's hard to pick something that you love and would see yourself doing for the rest of your life. I see my mentor's career as an option because I haven't set my mind towards what I want to do yet.

Third Week!

What are you thankful for in your internship experience?
I am thankful for having a mentor that gave me the chance to interact with the students and to work hands on with them. Also, I am thankful for having this internship experience in over all because if I would have never had the chance to have had this experience, then I would not have taken the teacher field as an option for a career.

Post the highlights from your mentor interview and explain what makes these quotes meaningful to you.
"When I was in High School, I really didn't think that I would be a teacher 'cause both of my parents are teachers and I wanted to do something different than what they did and I wouldn't expect that I would do that."
When my mentor said this I was surprised that she did not want to be a teacher because she did end up being a teacher. This made me think: 'Is she unhappy with her career?', 'Does she enjoy this job even though this wasn't what she going for?'.
"I like that no matter what kind of a day I'm having personally, like if I'm feeling upset about anything, that I can come in here and always laugh and smile at the joy of the children so I just enjoy their optimism and their energy."
This quote was meaningful to me because this made me realize how strong her passion for teaching really is since she did not want to be a teacher in the first place ,that I could actually feel this passion, and that I might not even want to pursue the teaching field but in the end I will end up choosing it.

Second Week!

How do you see your roll at your internship?
I see my role at internship as the back-up teacher. This is because I also teach the students mini lessons in which we do an activity as a facilitator for the lesson they learned. I also check homework, print out work, and all the basic stuff that the teachers have to do.

What is the biggest challenge face at your internship?
The biggest challenge that I have faced during internship so far is basically getting the hang of the students' troubles. The students will always need help and it has been a bit difficult to try to help all before time runs out and with equal patience for all.

First Week!

What are you excited about, nervous about and wondering about?
I am excited about being able to interact much more with the students. What I am nervous about is doing my project for internship because I still do not know what I am going to do. I do know that I want to make my project fun, interesting, and knowledgeable. I am wondering about what new experiences I am going to have at my internship.

Describe the project you'll do at internship, including the skills and technology you need to do it and what you hope your project looks like as a final product.
At my internship I will be teaching a lesson, helping the teacher and helping students. What I will be doing to help is grading work and helping students with anything they need help on. As a final product I want to look back and expect to have done everything I said I was going to do and also think of my internship as great learning experience.
